An Opportunity for Community:
- The Yevanim forbade Shabbos , Milah and Rosh Chodesh. Why is Rosh Chodesh as significant as Shabbos and Milah?
- The Rambam says there is an obligation to light menorahs at both sides of the house, lest another think none was lit. Why specifically for this mitzvah must everyone know it was fulfilled?
- One can make a bracha on seeing another's lit menorah. Thus isn't so for other mitzvos, such as succah or mezuzah-why only for the chanuka lights?
Days of Praise
- The Gemara says that chanika was established to commemorate the miracle of the oil. Yet the Al Hanissim recited on Chanuka makes no mention of the miracle of the oil!
- The Maccabi'im suffered numerous casualties in a war lasting many years. Why then are these "Days of Hallel and Hoda'ah"?
- How must one fulfill his obligation of gratitude?
